Our Mission

Sharing the Wisdom of the Catholic Faith

We hold to the teachings of the Catholic Church, passed down to us from Jesus and the first Christians.

We believe that the wisdom of the Church can help us to live meaningful and truly happy lives today.

Serving those in need

Open House is our service to the homeless people of central London.

As central London has one of the highest rates of homelessness in the UK, the gospel compels us to help these people in any way that we can.

Drawing people into a deep life of prayer

We all need to create space to listen for the voice of God in our lives, only then we will be able to hear where He is calling us.

Going out on mission

Our ministries serve the varied material and spiritual needs that we encounter here at St Patrick’s.

Our Eucharistic Heart

Everything that we do is the fruit of our time spent with Jesus. As Catholics, we believe that in the Holy Mass, the bread and wine become the real body and blood of Christ - the Eucharist.

Eucharistic Adoration is a way of praying with Jesus in His real presence.

Our History

The St Patrick’s Church that we know today was consecrated on the 29th of September, 1792 and was likely one of the first Catholic parishes established after practising Catholicism was made legal again in England.

Our Patron Saints

The patron saints of our parish are depicted in a set of magnificent, new, stained-glass windows which were designed by artist Vivienne Haig.

These six saints relate to the history, spirituality and mission of our church and are patrons of the work carried out here today.

Our team

Fr Chris Vipers

I am excited to have been appointed by the Cardinal as Parochial Administrator of St Patrick’s for this year, 2024. Priesthood is always a great adventure, and the life of a Priest is never dull. I feel very privileged to walk alongside the parish community and parish team here. St Patrick’s is a church with a big heart, and there’s always a warm welcome here. As a great Saint once said, “the Lord’s loving mercy awaits us”. We just need to step through that door!

Fr Philip-Thomas Edwards CSJ

I am a member of the Brothers of St John and for 2024 I will be the priest in residence at St Patrick's. It's an honour for me to be involved here, and a very stimulating new experience five years into my priesthood. The different aspects of the parish's mission dovetail with our charism as a community, especially devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and evangelisation. I am really enjoying the Open House meals too, as a place of shared warmth, fellowship and singalongs. St Patrick is also a saint I'm very fond of, not least because I had my vocation on his feast day.

Fr Alexander Sherbrooke

Parish Priest | On leave until January 2025

I have been the parish priest of St Patrick’s, Soho Square for twenty years and I love being parish priest here because it’s a place where the gospel is very raw. The challenges facing the Church and the proclamation of the gospel in a place like this are very much in your face. Our church is a place of healing, a place of mercy, from which we reach out to many of our brothers and sisters.

Tracy

Parish Operations Manager

I have been the Parish PA at St Patrick’s for nearly seven years. I enjoy my work very much as I find that I am in a unique position to organise our many outreach programmes which helps a lot of vulnerable people whilst also facilitating the smooth running of the parish office - so no two days are ever the same!

Samanthi

Outreach Coordinator

I am the Outreach Coordinator for St Patrick's, which means I'm responsible for all aspects of our volunteer-led activities for homeless and otherwise isolated guests, such as Open House, breakfast club, film club, the night shelter and more. It is a privilege to be able to live out the Gospel through service to others, and I love the community and companionship we share with all our guests who visit us daily for food, fellowship and prayer.

Laurence

Evangelisation Associate

I am a real people person, which is probably due in no small part to my being of New Zealand extraction. Engaging with parishioners and the public is an integral part of my role at St Patrick's and I encounter some amazing people on a daily basis. There is so much variety in my job and I am truly blessed to be able to do it in such a spiritual setting.

We need you

If you are passionate about our mission then we would love you to join our team.

What We Believe

We believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of God and that through Him everyone can be forgiven and set free to live a new life.

‘For God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.’ John 3:16
