Heading

This year's Advent Mission focuses on 'a light that shines in the dark, a light that darkness could not overpower' (John 1:5), and is set to be four days of prayer, mission and evangelisation. We have several wonderful speakers and prayerful activities including Cardinal Pell celebrating our opening Mass on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception at 6pm on Thursday 8th December.

Throughout the Mission, we have the Craig Lodge Mission Team from Scotland running our School of Mission. This is a great opportunity to meet, engage and invite people into the Church. Every day they will be running workshops and formation opportunities for people to join in this activity.

Prayer for our Advent Mission

May the light of Advent break apart the darkness of our lives and our world – let it lead us to Bethlehem and to the source of all light which is Jesus Christ. It is only this light which will penetrate deeply within us so we may know the humility and smallness of Bethlehem.

I pray for the grace to set aside all that which is proud, divisive, and arrogant so that I may know and hold this beautiful and holy light. May Mother Mary support me in this adventure of humility and purity so that I may come to adore Jesus at Christmas and in Bethlehem.

Amen

Spiritual participation in the Advent Mission

You may not be able to come to the Mission but even if you do, can we ask you to participate in the Novena of preparation for the Immaculate Conception of Mary.  It starts on the 30th November 2022 and finishes on the 8th December 2022.  If you could please pray it for the blessing and success of the Mission.

Get involved

From welcoming visitors to St Patrick's to supporting the celebration of our Liturgies. There are many ways you can be a part of this year's Advent Mission. If you are interested in volunteering sign up below.

School of Mission

Before the disciples received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost they were afraid to venture into the streets of Jerusalem. We are the same for we have already received the Holy Spirit in Baptism and Pentecost.

During the Advent Mission, we will be running a School of Mission led by Craig Lodge. They will be given practical skills and words of faith to guide us as we go into the streets to bringing the light of Advent into our neighbourhood.

Why don’t you think of joining the school these days? Through simple formation, you will be ready to join in this beautiful work. In order that we can plan and register you, please sign up.

40 hours of Adoration

In preparation for the feast of the Immaculate Conception of Our Lady, we will be holding 40 hours of adoration. We pray for the success and blessing of the Advent Mission.
