Become a Catholic

Beginning your journey into the Church

Becoming a Catholic is the start of a relationship with Jesus Christ, lived out in the life of His Church. Whatever has brought you here, and wherever you are starting from, you are welcome. We would be glad to walk with you.

Wherever you are starting from

You do not need any background in the faith to begin. Some people come having never been to church. Some were baptised in another Christian tradition and want to be received into full communion with the Catholic Church. Some were raised Catholic and feel ready to return. Wherever you are, the door is open.

What it means to become a Catholic

At the heart of it is Jesus. Becoming a Catholic means being united to Him through the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist. Through these we receive God's forgiveness, the gift of the Holy Spirit, and Jesus himself in Holy Communion. It is the beginning of a new life, lived with God and within the Church.

The Sacraments
What we believe
The journey

Becoming a Catholic is a journey rather than a single step. Through a process called the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults, you will have time to explore the faith, ask your questions, and come to know Christ at your own pace. Those preparing are usually received into the Church at the Easter Vigil.

Take the first step

Get in touch and tell us a little about yourself and where you are. It starts with a conversation, no pressure and no obligation.

Walk with us

Explore the faith at your own pace, accompanied by people who have made this journey themselves and a community that welcomes you.

Come into the Church

When you are ready, you are received through the Sacraments of Initiation, usually at the Easter Vigil, and begin your new life as a Catholic.
