The Institute of St John

The Brothers of St John take their inspiration from John the Evangelist, the beloved disciple. They seek to follow Jesus through a life of prayer, fraternity, study and apostolate. Founded in France in 1975, they now have priories on all the continents. They have been offering formation at the Institute of St John since their arrival in the UK in 2008. They also serve the parish of St Antony’s, Forest Gate.

The Institute of St John exists to form interested lay people in philosophy and theology, helping them discover the treasures of human and divine wisdom. It meets on Tuesday mornings in term time. The classes go in depth, but no previous background in the subjects is required. It is possible to pick and choose the subjects in the programme, although each series of classes will benefit students the most taken as a whole. We invite donations at the end of each term, with the suggestion of £15 /morning, but this shouldn’t be an obstacle.
