St. Patrick's is located in the heart of Soho, an area infamous for drugs, entertainment and the sex industry. People gather in the restaurants, bars and theatres wanting to be entertained. Individuals wander through the streets seeking instant gratification. Everyone is looking for love, but it is evident that many are looking in the wrong places.
At World Youth Day in 1993, Pope John Paul II said; "Do not be afraid to go out onto the streets and into public places as the first apostles did to preach Christ and the good news of salvation in the squares of cities, towns and villages. This is no time to be ashamed of the Gospel."
The outreach and evangelisation done by the students responds to this call and aims to gently spread true love--the love of God--to those in and around the Soho area.
Student Opportunities to Evangelise-
Answering calls on the SOS Prayerline, where they work as intermediaries between those who phone in with prayers and petitions of all kinds and God, exposed in the Blessed Sacrament.
- Serving dinner to and praying with homeless men and women during Open House.
For the students weekly street evangelisation involves spending an hour or two out on the streets of London, sharing their love and zeal for God with those they encounter.
Large-scale Outreaches, which can take weeks of preparation, are done together with various groups, ranging from a local Gospel Choir to professional evangelisation groups and other local groups.
Most importantly, the students learn that the most effective way to Evangelise is to live a life of love centred around Christ.
One Heart and One Soul: Community as a Witness to the World
“Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them” (Acts 4:32-33)
Students joining St. Patrick’s Evangelization School will experience community life. They will live, pray, study, work and share together. They will grow in their Catholic faith, learning from and supporting each other. A spirit of unity, compassion, service and love will prevail, as the community strives to live the Gospel of Christ.
This experience of community will also be a witness to others.
