The annual Carol Concert in connection with the Foreign Aid Service of the Knights of Malta took place on Monday 4th December this year and like all those before it was a splendid evening full of joy and festivity. This year music was provided by The St. Patrick’s Singers lead by Breda McKinney, The St. Patrick’s Gospel Choir lead by Tracey Campbell and for the first time we welcomed the beautifully sung St. Francis Holland Children’s Choir directed by Helen Vickery. Entertaining readings were performed by Clarissa Dickson-Wright, Rupert Everett, Mel Giedroyc, Kasia Pelka and Jamie Parker. Our deepest thanks go to all those who took part and helped to make the evening such a success, and in particular to Stefan Bednarczyk for organising and directing the whole evening. Thank you to those of you who attended, we hope you had a great evening and for those who you who missed it be sure to join us next year!

On Sunday 1 October, Joseph Cardinal Zen of Hong Kong celebrated the 2.00pm Cantonese Mass. His Eminence has been called "the new conscience of Hong Kong" and is claimed to be the leading expert on the Church in China.

Spirit in the City was a bolstering event from the 13th to the 16th of July that brought all four of the West End Churches together. The event was the West End Church’s response to the Cardinal’s “Open the doors!” initiative, and drew young people from across the diocese. Highlights included all night adoration, Eucharistic Processions through the streets of the West End, Mass with Bishop Bernard Longley, and powerful, grounded catechesis from notable speakers, including David Payne, Fr. Dermot Power, and the Franciscan Friars. Soul Food and Youth 2000 helped to host events, and Verbum Dei assisted with the preparation for street evangelisation in Soho, led by St. Patrick’s Church. People’s experiences of the street evangelisation were overwhelmingly positive. The weekend ended with an uplifting International Mass at the French Church followed by drama by ACTS, poetry by Sarah Nordwall, and a social. Many thanks to Anne Marie Salgo and her preparation team for all the coordinating that made this event possible. We hope that this activity will set a precedent for future evangelisation and cooperation amongst the West End parishes, and for establishing community amongst the Catholics of the Westminster Diocese.

On Wednesday 31st May the students of St. Patrick’s Evangelisation School celebrated their Graduation in a Mass with Bishop Bernard Longley. O ur congratulations go to the nine students as they leave St. Patrick’s having successfully graduated from their course. We wish them all the best of luck and every happiness in the future. P lease continue to pray for past, present and future members of the School. The School would not be possible without your prayer and support. So many unseen sacrifices and prayer by so many unknown people are what the Lord uses to help us yield a rich harvest and for that we are truly grateful.

On the 16th March, Cardinal Cormac Murphy O’Connor came to celebrate a Vigil Mass for our Patronal Feast, St. Patrick’s Day. It was a very joyous occasion; we had an incredibly full church and were fortunate to have amongst the congregation the Irish Ambassador and his family. After the Mass there was a reception to celebrate our Patron Saint and an opportunity to share in the Irish spirit with all those who attended. Shamrock was blessed and distributed at the Vigil Mass and all those on the day itself. Thank you to all those who joined us in our celebrations and we hope that you all had a very happy St. Patrick’s Day!

On Wednesday the 25 th January at 6.30pm there will be a Mass celebrated by Bishop Bernard Longley, to officially launch our fundraising campaign - St. Patrick’s Appeal. Please come and join us as we ask the Lord to bless our Appeal and all those and materials involved. As always your prayer and support is much needed and would be gratefully received. All are very welcome. For more information about the Appeal or how to donate please click on the Appeal tab above or call Elizabeth Forrester on 020 7734 1334.
