
1. Late 18th century figure of Our Lady holding the dead Christ, ‘a Pietà’ as

such studies are known.

A plaque recording the opening of ‘Father O’Leary’s

Chapel in 1792 and the rebuilt church in 1893’

3. A mural monument to Father O’Leary, the founder of St Patrick’s, on

which there is a cameo of the priest surrounded by shamrock.

A painting of a 15th century Italian nun, St Rita of Cascia

A fine altar to St Anthony of Padua. A 12th century Portugese Franciscan

friar.

A plaque to Father Barge alongside the chapel he established to ‘Our

Lady of Sorrows’ featuring a Pietà by Phyffers.

An altar dedicated to St Therese of Lisieux, a 19 th century French

Carmelite nun who has been declared ‘Patroness of Missions’.

Two mahogany confessional boxes that were created for the rebuilt

church in 1893.

A painting in the Italian school, it depicts St Simeon holding the Holy Child

and dates back to the 17th century.

10. Ornate, gilded 18th century altar bearing a statue of the Virgin holding

the infant Jesus.

11. The Neo-Renaissance pulpit. An item used to great effect by the famous

American TV evangelist Fulton Sheen.

An altar to St John Bosco, a 19th century Italian priest and founder of

the Salesian order. Two Italian parishioners sat for the sculpture and

the boys’ toy model was modelled on the church.

The organ to the left is equally as notable. Rebuilt in the late 1880s,

prior to its new installation in the new church, it is said to date back to

JC Bach and the building’s days as Carlisle House. The original pedal

pipes have been removed, but it is hoped to refit these as part of a

much needed restoration programme.

The High Altar was created for the rebuilt church. Above it hangs a

particularly fine oil of the Crucifixion. This is believed to be the work of a

pupil of Van Dyke.

15.
A plaque here marks the Church’s association with the Connaught

Rangers, an Irish Regiment much valued by the Duke of Wellington.

16.
The altar of the ‘Sacred Heart’ which dates back to 1873. The statue

which is earlier, dramatises the piercing of Christ’s side with a lance,

during the Crucifixion.

17.
Here a wall plaque records the names of the parishioners who gave

their lives during the Great War.

18.
Altar to St Joseph featuring a fine 1892 oil depicting Joseph carrying the

young Jesus. As well as an ‘Infant of Prague’ statue of the child Jesus.

19.
A plaque here gives thanks for the sparing of the church

from a bomb during the Second World War. On the night

of November 19th 1940 a bomb pierced the roof of the

Church but failed to detonate.

20.
An altar to the Saints Martha and Mary. Its carved alabaster front and

pillars are reputed to have formed part of the original High Altar.

21.
An altar to Our Lady of Lourdes. This impressive three storey piece of

marble statuary was donated to the Church in 1892, less than fifty

years after the Virgin Mary’s apparition to the young St Bernadette

Soubirous in 1858.

A high niche contains a statue of St Anne and her daughter the Virgin

Mary.

The baptism chapel and marble side altar celebrating the baptism of

Christ by St John the Baptist.

An oil portrait of St Maximillian Kolbe, a Polish Franciscan priest who

exchanged his life for that of a married prisoner in Auschwitz.

25.
Statues of St John Fisher and St Thomas More, donated by Danny La

Rue in memory of his aunt and his mother, Joan and Mary Anne Carroll.

26.
A plaque recording of the rectors of the Church between 1792 and

2001.
