The theological lectures at St. Patrick’s started in October 2004 with the first series titled ‘Catholicism for the Curious’. The purpose of these evenings is to give young people the opportunity to share a meal, to listen to a teaching on a part of the faith of the Church and an opportunity to socialise.
Our first series attracted large numbers of young people and due to this success we organised another series (based around Theology of the Body) to take us into the summer. Good numbers have come and have enjoyed what have been very informative evenings. We have continued this tradition through to the present and hope to add to it in the future by adding an element of evangelisation. The death of John Paul II has heightened the desire of many to know about his teaching and to reflect on why his death and his life had such an enormous impact upon our world. There is a great hunger out there for young people to be fed and to receive these truths and we hope that through these evenings that more will be able to benefit and draw strength.
Our last series was in 2008 called ‘Love & Responsibility’ to mark the 40th Anniversary of Humanae Vitae based around the encyclical.
