Saint Patrick’s is the home of the Catholic Chinese Chaplaincy. In 1967, the first UK public mass in Cantonese was said here. Since 1982, Saint Patrick’s has given home to a Chinese priest who serves the needs of Chinese Catholics in London and extends his ministry to Chinese people elsewhere in England & Scotland.
On a Sunday the basement is always full of good cheer, solidarity and welcome with Cantonese and Mandarin speakers. Many are received into the Church and there is an ongoing programme of Catechesis and preparation for the sacraments.

Every Saturday afternoon St. Patrick’s becomes the home of the Brazilian Community of the West-End. The afternoon comprises of Confession and Mass in Potuguese lead by Fr. Fred Ribero, the Brazilian Chaplain, followed by an evening of charismatic praise, worship and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament with songs and prayer. The group is inspired by and follows the statues of the Brazilian Charismatic Movement named SHALOM, whose headquarters are in Fortaleza, Ceara State, Brazil.

St. Patrick’s has always had a very strong link with the different language groups who are part of the Catholic Community in London. For many years there has been a Spanish Mass here but in recent years it is focussed particularly on the Spanish speaking Latin American community. Every Sunday at 6pm one of the Latin American chaplains celebrates Mass for what is often a very full church. Many of the people who come are working very long hours for not great sums of money and therefore the opportunity to share and to celebrate their Catholic Faith with their countrymen and women is very important. The music and singing is often full of colour and excitement. In the last two years we have also had a Mass at 4pm on Saturday for the Brazilians organised by the Shalom movement. This Mass has brought together many of the 100,000 Brazilians living in London. They are charismatic but ready to receive all. Afterwards they have a prayer group and a sharing and make use of the parish facilities to gather and share and deepen their faith.
