St. Patrick’s reaches out and touches the hearts of many. Being situated in the heart of the West End, a major tourism attraction, means that St. Patrick’s sees people of numerous different nationalities wandering through its doors. It is also the home to many international immigrant communities and has strong international connections in its history. This has helped to widen the Parish boundaries, as such, bringing together a network of friends and supporters around the globe whom we are enormously grateful to.
One of our most famous friends was the well known Archbishop Fulton Sheen, the first American Catholic television evangelist, who frequently celebrated Mass and stayed at St. Patrick’s. Such was his love for St. Patrick’s that he often described himself as the ‘unappointed curate of the Parish.’ With film star looks, wit, and spiritual eloquence he captivated tens of millions of TV viewers and was responsible for converting Henry Ford II and the owner of Time Magazine, Mrs Clare Luce, to Catholicism!
